In Search of the IBM Black Workers Alliance

2021 - present

I initiated this oral history and research project after coming across the IBM Black Workers Alliance (BWA) in an article by Clyde Ford. I was interested to learn more, but found very little about the group in the institutional archive.

This page details the documents and information I’ve found about the group, as well as presentations and articles that I’ve produced about the project.

I conducted a series of oral history interviews with former IBM workers who had been organizing at the company in the 1960s-1980s, and who were involved in or had had contact with the BWA.

In May 2022 I published an article reflecting on my research in Wired magazine.

In June-July 2021, I published exceprts from the oral history interviews in the Tech Workers Coalition Newsletter.

In April 2021, I presented an overview of the project at the Anthropology in Transit conference hosted by the University of California, Irvine.
